“I remember the day when she underwent her first surgery. We were praying for the best. Fear and hope resided side by side in my heart that day. Now we would have to live that day all over again and I don’t know how we will manage.”
Meenakshi, a fourteen-year-old child of Lakshmamma and Sankar, lives in Nalgonda, Telangana. She is suffering from Complex Heart Disease and has already undergone surgery at the age of six months old, but now she requires another.
According to the doctors at Telangana’s Apollo Institute for Medical Sciences and Research (8.9 km from Hyderabad Railway Station), Meenakshi’s life- saving surgery would cost Rs.5,50,000/- (Rupees Five Lakh Fifty Thousand Only).
Sankar is the sole breadwinner in his family of five and he works as a daily wage labourer. He has taken loans to fund the expenses, but it still hasn’t been enough.
